Moroccan General Director of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, held discussions today, Friday, with the Director General of French Internal Security, Nicolas Lerner, who is on an official visit to Morocco.

The talks aimed to evaluate intelligence and security cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, as well as to discuss operational coordination mechanisms in security matters of mutual interest.

Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing security and intelligence cooperation, expanding technical assistance, and operational collaboration between the two parties.

This includes sharing experiences and expertise, strengthening mutual security, and addressing all threats and risks facing both countries.

This meeting is part of Morocco’s efforts to bolster international cooperation in various security and intelligence fields, given its role as a serious and trusted partner in regional and international security and stability endeavors.

Last September, French President Emmanuel Macron denounced what he called “controversies that have no reason to be” after Morocco rejected offers of aid from France.

Macron reiterated his support for the Kingdom and its people while brushing aside strained relations between Paris and Rabat.

“We are at your side today and tomorrow,” Macron said in a video post published on X. “France was shocked by what happened … we are here and we can provide direct humanitarian aid.”

He added: “We will be there in the long term on a humanitarian level and medical level for reconstruction, for cultural and heritage aid.”

Ties with France, once a colonial ruler where many Moroccans resided, became tense after Macron sought a closer bond with Algeria.
