The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called upon the leaders of European Union member states on Wednesday to support Ukraine by providing substantial financial assistance.

She emphasized Ukraine’s ambitions to hold discussions regarding its membership in the bloc ahead of a crucial EU summit.

Speaking from the European Parliament headquarters in Strasbourg, eastern France, von der Leyen stated, “We must give Ukraine what it needs to be strong today so that it can be even stronger when negotiating a fair and long-term peace with Russia.”

This statement was reported by the French Press Agency.

It’s worth noting that the accession of any European country to the European Union requires the approval of all 27 member states.

Recently, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his opposition to this step, citing corruption concerns in Ukraine.
