Two trains collided near the Italian city of Faenza on Sunday, resulting in 17 injuries, most of which were reported as minor. The incident was reported by the Italian news agency ANSA, citing rescue workers at the scene.

The accident occurred around 8:30 PM local time (1930 GMT) along the railway between the cities of Bologna and Rimini in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna.

Firefighters are still at the scene, working to secure the railway line. The immediate cause of the collision is not yet clear and is currently under investigation.

The crash came two weeks after two people died when a train collided with a truck at a level crossing in Italy’s southern Calabria region, sparking a national strike by railway staff calling for greater safety standards.

Last August five railway workers died after being hit by a train travelling at 160 km/ph while they were fixing tracks at night near Turin.
