Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, Director General and Special Representative for the UAE’s Presidency of COP28, announced a series of new and ambitious nature-related initiatives at the global climate action summit.

A key highlight is the allocation of $1.7 billion to simultaneously achieve climate and biodiversity goals.

During a press conference held today in the Blue Zone, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Suwaidi emphasized the UAE’s focus on nature, mobilizing action from governments and non-state actors to protect and restore ecosystems ranging from hills to coral reefs.

He proudly spoke of the UAE’s heritage in nature-based climate action across diverse ecosystems, including desert, mountain, coastal, and marine environments.

The COP28 Presidency recognizes the interconnection between climate challenges and nature.

Al Suwaidi praised the nations supporting the Security Council’s resolution proposal, reaffirming the commitment to immediate ceasefire efforts, humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, and international protection for the Palestinian people.

This initiative reflects the UAE’s understanding of the critical need to invest in African youth’s health, enhancing prospects for prosperity and growth, in partnership with African countries and commitment to supporting their sustainable development efforts.
