In a press conference held in Ramallah on Tuesday, Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila revealed alarming statistics, stating that the West Bank has witnessed 260 deaths and 3,200 injuries since 7 October.
The death toll continues to rise despite international appeals for Israeli forces to minimize civilian harm in the ongoing military offensive, which entered a new phase on December 1 after the collapse of a truce with Hamas.
The impact is particularly severe in Gaza, where more than 15,900 Palestinians, including 250 health workers, have lost their lives since the outbreak of the war.
Additionally, over 40,900 individuals in Gaza have sustained injuries due to Israeli bombardments, according to the Health Minister’s ministry.
Expressing serious concern, Minister Mai al-Kaila warned that if the current pace of Israeli military operations persists, the health sector in the region may face a complete collapse.
She highlighted the challenges in accurately counting the number of casualties in real-time, emphasizing that the final tally of war-related deaths is likely to be significantly higher.
This is due to the presence of thousands of bodies still buried in rubble from airstrikes, exacerbated by the collapse of the Civil Defence authority responsible for the removal of corpses from bombing sites.
The situation in the Occupied Palestinian territories remains critical, with urgent calls for international intervention to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
