Bader Al-Din Al-Toumi, Minister of Local Governance of the ‘National Unity Government,’ discussed on Monday with Manfred Karl Friedrich, Regional Director of the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), details of planning a community and economic participation program in municipalities. The program, to be implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the ministry, will focus on various municipalities.

The discussions centered on the program’s overall budget, expenditure aspects, key elements, axes, and intervention details. It also aimed to jointly re-plan the program between the ministry and the institution, ensuring its integration with the ministry’s approved national map, according to a statement from the ministry.

According to the statement, there was an emphasis on the necessity of coordinating with the ministry in all details of the joint projects, particularly regarding the appointment of experts to provide necessary support to the ministry’s technical administrations.

Al-Toumi stressed that “clarity in vision and agreement on project details from the design stage ensures the sustainability of joint work and avoids any pitfalls during implementation.” He reaffirmed that “the task of monitoring international cooperation projects will be entrusted to a neutral and dedicated third party, so as not to distract the ministry’s work team and overburden them with additional tasks.”

It’s noteworthy that GIZ, headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn, Germany, offers services in international development cooperation. The organization primarily implements technical cooperation projects for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is the main party for commissioning.
