In a recent development, Diaa Rashwan, Head of the General Authority for Information in Egypt, categorically denied rumors circulating on social media that Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip had reached the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing. This clarification was issued in a statement on the official website of the Egyptian State Information Service.
Rashwan emphasized Egypt’s current intensive efforts, in collaboration with international partners, to reinstate the humanitarian truce in Gaza. These efforts come after a week-long ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which resumed hostilities on Friday. Both parties have exchanged accusations over who breached the ceasefire, while Egyptian and Qatari mediators are reportedly working to renew the truce.
The ceasefire had facilitated the exchange of detainees and prisoners between the two sides and allowed the entry of hundreds of aid trucks into Gaza. Rashwan highlighted the urgent need to extend the ceasefire to address the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, which he described as catastrophic. He stressed the importance of halting the war and rapidly increasing the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the region.
Rashwan also expressed Egypt’s profound regret over the breach of the temporary humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, reiterating the nation’s commitment to seeking peace and stability in the region.
