The six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations have expressed their determination to strengthen their global trade relationships with various countries and international organizations, aiming to bolster their economic foundations.

This intention was highlighted by Jassim Mohammed Al-Badiwi, the General Secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council, during his meeting with Rebecca Greenspan, the General Secretary of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva on Monday evening.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the meeting focused on several crucial topics, including sustainable development areas, economic diversification, and addressing global economic and investment challenges.

The General Secretary of the GCC affirmed the council’s commitment to diversifying their economies and readiness to work with UNCTAD to enhance trade and investment in the region.

Both parties discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and expressed their eagerness to unify efforts to achieve regional and global economic development.

They also emphasized the significance of multilateral work in addressing contemporary issues in global trade in all its aspects.

This initiative by the GCC countries marks a significant step towards their engagement in the global economic landscape, underlining their proactive approach to tackling economic challenges and promoting sustainable growth.

Jassim Mohammed Al-Badiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, stressed that the ongoing crisis in Gaza now poses a threat to both regional and global security.

This situation necessitates the intervention of all nations and organizations to bring an end to this escalating crisis.

During a meeting with Luigi Di Maio, the European Union’s Special Representative to the Gulf region, on the sidelines of the 19th “Manama Dialogue” conference in Bahrain’s capital, Al-Badiwi expressed his hope that the European Union’s efforts and influence might contribute to resolving the crisis in Gaza and pressure the Israeli forces to cease their aggression.

Al-Badiwi noted the ongoing communication between the GCC and the European Union at all levels.
