On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to continue the fight against abuses and bring an end to violence against women.

In a video message shared on his social media account, Macron stated, “Every day, women are subjected to oppressive practices, violence, and persecution. Every day brings pain and psychological suffering. We can end all this, we must end this, and we will do so.”

According to Macron, data from 2022 indicates that 244,000 French women experienced domestic violence, doubling the number recorded in 2017.

He noted that these figures reflect women’s increasing freedom to speak out about their experiences.

However, Macron also acknowledged the grim reality that 118 women lost their lives to domestic violence at the hands of their partners in 2022.

The French leader highlighted upcoming plans to activate significant tools to assist women.

This includes the development of a database that will enable police officers to better track individuals who commit domestic violence.

Additionally, starting December 1st, financial assistance will be provided to victims of violence who find themselves in difficult living situations.

The world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women every year on November 25th. This date was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 17, 1999.
