Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, convened a meeting with foreign ministers from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss Israel’s aggression in the Gaza Strip.
Lavrov, aligning with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, opposing terrorism while underscoring the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law.
Lavrov criticized the insufficient humanitarian aid reaching Gaza and called for immediate preparations to resume negotiations for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He highlighted the absence of Arab representation in the International Quartet for the Middle East settlement and stressed the necessity of involving regional countries in mechanisms addressing the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Attendees at the meeting included Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki, and Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha.
Lavrov criticized Israel for what he deemed as collective punishment against Palestinians, emphasizing that Israeli actions must comply with international law.
