Five high-risk prisoners who escaped from Tunisia’s Mornaguia jail on Tuesday have been successfully apprehended, announced the Interior Ministry.

In response, the ministry released photos and names of the inmates, urging citizens to share any information that could help prevent potential “terrorist acts.”

The escaped individuals were among the most dangerous detainees, with ties to terrorist organizations such as Ansar al-Sharia, al-Qaeda, and armed groups in the Maghreb, Sahel, and Saharan African regions.

These individuals were serving sentences ranging from life imprisonment to hard labor, primarily for their involvement in the 2013 assassinations of leftist politicians Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi.

Mornaguia Prison, situated 20 kilometers west of Tunis, stands as the largest prison in Tunisia.

Built during the rule of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, the facility adheres to international specifications, having received financial and technological support from the international community.
