The Arab Parliament has officially approached the United Nations Human Rights Council, urging the formation of an international investigation committee to probe the alleged war crimes committed in Gaza. This move comes amidst growing concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza.
In a statement released on Saturday, which was carried by the Palestinian news agency “Wafa”, the Arab Parliament articulated its distress over what it describes as a genocidal war waged against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. The Parliament condemned these acts as complete war crimes and crimes against humanity, which are strictly prohibited by international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions pertaining to the treatment of civilians during armed conflicts.
Further, the Parliament called upon the international community and the Security Council to break their silence, assume their responsibilities, and enforce international law and global legitimacy resolutions. They emphasized holding the occupying force accountable for its alleged crimes, providing international protection for the defenseless Palestinian people, and pressuring the occupying force to halt its fierce war machinery and cease the bloodshed.
Moreover, the Arab Parliament reiterated its support and solidarity with the fair struggle of the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate national rights. This includes their right to return and to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has drawn global attention and stirred international reactions, urging for peaceful resolutions and respect for human rights. The call from the Arab Parliament adds to the growing global voices demanding thorough investigation and accountability for the alleged war crimes in Gaza. This move underscores the urgency and the international communal responsibility towards addressing the humanitarian catastrophe and working towards a just and lasting peace in the region.
