Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the outgoing head of Libya’s National Unity Government, met with Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara to discuss various matters.
The two officials tacked the return of Turkish Airlines flights to Libya, addressing the residency issues of Libyans in Turkey, and the potential cancellation of visa requirements between the two nations.
This crucial discussion took place at the Turkish Foreign Ministry and saw the participation of the State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, the Prime Minister, and the Prime Minister’s advisor.
During their talks, the Palestinian issue also surfaced, with both sides emphasizing support for the efforts of Islamic countries concerning this matter. They stressed the importance of providing protection and backing to the Palestinians, also reviewing the outcomes of the recent Cairo and Riyadh meetings related to the recent events in Gaza.
Dbeibah and Fidan affirmed their endorsement of the endeavors of the UN envoy, Abdullah Batile, in conducting fair and impartial elections.
They highlighted the significance of consolidating local and international efforts to successfully execute these elections and conclude the transitional phases in Libya, as per the official statement.
The meeting also delved into several other matters that had been previously agreed upon with the Turkish President. Among the most significant are the aforementioned return of Turkish Airlines operations, the resolution of residency challenges faced by Libyans in Turkey, and the visa abolition initiative from both the Libyan and Turkish sides.
In conclusion, the attendees broached the topic of reconstructing Derna and its neighboring municipalities. Fidan, as quoted in the official communique, expressed Turkey’s readiness to contribute and partake in this reconstruction initiative.
