French football club Nice, on Wednesday, announced the suspension of their Algerian player, Youssef Atal, over allegations related to an anti-Semitic post.
In a statement posted on their official website, OGC Nice stated:
Upon his return from the Algerian national team, where he had been since October 9th, officials from Nice met with Youssef Atal. The club acknowledges that the player admitted his mistake by promptly removing the post and offering his apologies.
However, given the nature and seriousness of the post, the club has decided to take immediate disciplinary action against the player, in addition to any measures that may be imposed by sports and judicial authorities.
As a result, OGC Nice has suspended Youssef Atal until further notice. The club wishes to emphasize that the reputation of “OGC Nice” is the result of the behavior of all its employees, who must align with the values upheld by the institution.
Nice reaffirms its strong commitment to promoting peace and unity above all other considerations.
