Nabil Ammar, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, held discussions with Robert Jenrick, the UK Minister of State for Immigration, regarding steps to combat illegal migration.

During his visit to London to participate in the second session of the Tunisian-UK Partnership Council, Ammar emphasized Tunisia’s commitment to addressing this issue within its capabilities while adhering to Tunisian laws and international treaties. He reiterated the government’s rejection of granting illegal migrants residence on its territory.

The existing bilateral cooperation in the security domain was commended, with an agreement to enhance relations to counter illegal migration and transnational organized crime effectively. Both sides also pledged to advance the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2016.
The meeting between Nabil Ammar and Robert Jenrick underscores the importance of addressing the challenge of illegal migration, a pressing issue that countries worldwide are grappling with. Tunisia, like many nations, is committed to managing illegal migration while upholding its legal and international obligations.

The collaboration between Tunisia and the UK in the security realm reflects the shared interest in addressing not only illegal migration but also transnational organized crime that often intersects with migration patterns. The 2016 memorandum of understanding serves as a framework for their joint efforts in managing these challenges.

Efforts to combat illegal migration require a multi-faceted approach, including cooperation on border control, law enforcement, and international partnerships. The meeting highlights the ongoing commitment of Tunisia and the UK to work together in this regard, contributing to regional and global efforts to manage migration effectively.
