Tentatively termed the ‘Galaxy Ring,’ a narrative from a South Korean outlet, The Elec, suggested a potential collaboration with Japan’s Meiko for circuit boards.
However, fresh insights propose a probable postponement of the launch to either Q3 2024 or early 2025.
The smart ring is expected to parallel the capabilities of a conventional fitness tracker but without a display, offering features such as heart rate, sleep, and step tracking, along with workout logging.
Reports indicate that the wearable tech is deep into its development phase and should be available in four size variants to accommodate different finger sizes.
Collaboration with component suppliers like ‘Doosung Tech’ and ‘Korea Seongjeon’ is also reportedly in the works to source varied parts for the Galaxy Ring.
The publication implies that Samsung if opting to debut the smart ring with medical certification analogous to the Galaxy Watch, might need to delay the launch.
This is attributed to the 7-8 month product development timeline and an additional year required for obtaining medical approvals.
A glimpse at presently available smart rings, such as the newly released Noise Luna and the premium Oura Ring, gives an inclination that the Galaxy Ring might harbor features akin to fitness trackers, such as monitoring heart rate, sleep patterns, blood oxygen levels, and step count, in addition to detecting workouts.
