In anticipation of forming a new government following recent elections, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued a decree accepting the resignation of the Prime Minister and his cabinet.
The official results of the Kuwaiti elections revealed the victory of one woman, along with the return of most members from the annulled 2022 council.
As reported by Al Ain News, a thorough examination of the results from the five electoral districts showed that 38 members from the annulled 2022 council had won seats among the 50 announced victors.
Kuwait’s National Assembly consists of 50 members, chosen through direct secret public elections, with 10 members representing each of Kuwait’s five electoral districts. The parliamentary term lasts for four years from the date of the council’s first meeting.
Notably, among the victors from the 2022 council are the President of the Council, Ahmed Al-Saadoun, and the former minister, Jenan Boushehri, who ensured the reservation of a seat for women in the 2023 council.
Among the prominent winners from the 2020 council, which was dissolved in early May last year, is Marzouq Al-Ghanim, the council president.
This election marks the second parliamentary elections held in Kuwait within the span of 9 months and the third during the reign of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who took office on September 29.
