The Director of the National Center for Disease Control, Haider Al-Saadi, has announced that the number of cases of water pollution has risen to 150 due to the contamination of drinking water with sewage water in flood-affected areas in eastern Libya.
Al-Saadi, as reported by the Government platform, warned that the drinking water in Derna is not safe for consumption, and alternative sources should be relied upon.
He confirmed that the center has decided to declare a one-year state of emergency in the flood-affected areas in eastern Libya to prevent the spread of any diseases.
Al-Saadi stated that the center recommends dividing Derna into three zones: affected, fragile, and safe areas.
This is aimed at dealing with the consequences of the floods, providing relief to the affected population, and assisting families in relocating to safe areas.
The director of the center also noted that vaccination centers in Derna were not affected and that routine vaccinations for children in the city would resume starting tomorrow, Sunday.
