Palestinian media outlets reported on Friday that Israeli forces closed several streets in Jerusalem in preparation for the Jewish New Year holiday.
According to the “Sama” agency, thousands of settlers stormed the Al-Buraq Square in Al-Aqsa Mosque in the early hours of Friday and performed Talmudic rituals near the Western Wall in celebration of the so-called “Jewish New Year.”
Sources in Jerusalem confirmed that settlers held celebrations near the city’s wall late at night and early in the morning in connection with the same occasion, which falls on the next Saturday and Sunday.
Hatem Al-Bakri, the Palestinian Minister of Awqaf, stated, “The blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque still suffers from the darkness of occupation, as Israel has not left the mosque since it was set on fire in 1969; it still seeks to control it.”
In exclusive statements to “Sputnik,” Al-Bakri stressed, “The burning of the mosque marked the beginning of igniting the battle around it, a battle that has not stopped to this day and is still raging. It has escalated significantly in recent days. Israel aims, through these actions, to gain full control over this blessed site and to falsely and deceitfully alter its structure.”
The Palestinian Minister of Awqaf emphasized that “the war, which has not stopped to this day and still has its flames burning in Al-Aqsa Mosque, is confronted by Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims with great strength.
The Palestinian people and the people of Jerusalem, in particular, mobilize all their capabilities and power to counter these aggressive Israeli moves and prevent the occupation from achieving its goals.”
