Meta Platforms is in the process of creating a more potent artificial intelligence (AI) system, as per insiders cited by the Wall Street Journal. The tech giant aims to rival the prowess of the most advanced model introduced by OpenAI, a renowned non-profit dedicated to AI research.
In its recent publication, the Wall Street Journal reported that Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is targeting to have this innovative AI model ready by next year. Notably, the upcoming model is anticipated to be significantly more powerful than its predecessor, Lama 2, which is Meta’s commercial version.
Lama 2, launched by Meta this past July, is an extensive linguistic AI model built on an open-source framework. Such models are at the forefront of recent technological advancements, given their ability to understand and generate human-like text.
The yet-to-be-finalized system, as highlighted by the Wall Street Journal, will aid other businesses in crafting services that can produce sophisticated text, analytics, and other outputs. These advances play a pivotal role in a range of applications, from content generation to customer service assistance.
Concluding its report, the Wall Street Journal mentioned that Meta is gearing up to commence training on the new AI system, referred to as the “Large Linguistic Model.”
OpenAI has long held a significant position in the AI research domain with models like GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer). These models have been used across various sectors, including content generation, gaming, and virtual assistance.
Meta’s endeavor into this field, particularly with such ambitious targets, is a testament to the rising importance and competition in AI research and development.
