CNN reports the deaths of five additional United Nations employees in Gaza over the past 48 hours. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated that these additional fatalities bring the total number of UN agency workers killed in Gaza to 79 since October 7th.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, expressed last week that these losses represent the highest number of UN relief workers killed in a conflict anywhere in the world over such a brief period. UNRWA praised its staff in a Sunday report, highlighting their relentless efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance despite the losses and displacement they are experiencing.
Moreover, the agency provided an update on the death toll from airstrikes around the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on November 2nd and 4th. UNRWA confirmed that the airstrikes, one of which occurred near an UNRWA school in the camp, resulted in the death of 27 individuals.
The report detailed that the airstrike targeting the UNRWA school in the camp on November 4th claimed the lives of 15 people.
