The Ministry of Mines in Mali has reported that over 70 miners lost their lives in a mine collapse in the southwest of the country last week.
The ministry issued a statement stating that the incident occurred on Friday at the Bakanjaba Circle site in the Kolikoro region in the southwestern part of the country. However, the exact number of casualties was not mentioned in detail.
Ministry spokesperson Baye Kolibaly, speaking over the phone, mentioned that the number of casualties is still preliminary.
He also stated that the ministry would be sending a delegation to the Kangaba area on Thursday to gather more details about the incident.
