Rainstorms in southern China have resulted in the tragic deaths of at least seven people and led to an unusual incident involving the escape of dozens of crocodiles from a farm.
In Maoming, a city located near the coast in western Guangdong province, more than 70 crocodiles escaped from a farm due to the heavy rainstorms. Authorities have advised nearby residents to stay at home as they work to capture the escaped crocodiles. According to reports, 69 adult crocodiles and six juveniles are among those that escaped. While some have been recaptured, the operation remains challenging due to the depth of a lake where some of the crocodiles are located. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the escaped reptiles.
Further west in the city of Yulin in the Guangxi region, the rainstorms triggered multiple landslides, resulting in seven fatalities, with three individuals reported as missing. The landslides occurred due to heavy rainfall experienced on Sunday and Monday.
Last week, heavy rain led to flash floods in Hong Kong, resulting in two casualties. The city experienced another heavy downpour on Monday, leading to further flooding in some areas and leaving behind puddles of water and debris.
The ongoing adverse weather conditions have necessitated continued vigilance and preparedness measures to ensure the safety of residents in affected regions.
