Four people were killed in a shooting spree in the towns of Schessel and Rotenburg in the northern German state of Lower Saxony on Wednesday.

Police and prosecutors said the suspected gunman surrendered to authorities, according to the German news agency DPA.

The attack occurred in two separate locations, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) apart.
In Schessel, the gunman opened fire at a car dealership, killing two people and injuring two others. He then drove to Rotenburg, where he shot and killed two women in a parking lot.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but police said they do not believe it was a terrorist attack.
The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be charged with murder.

German authorities expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and called for calm and restraint.
