In a night of Russian strikes, four individuals lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries in the heart of Kherson, a city in southern Ukraine, according to local authorities.
Alexander Brokhodin, the governor of the region, conveyed via Telegram that the Russian military bombarded Kherson in the past night.
He explained that a shell struck a residential building, resulting in the tragic demise of an 87-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife.
Furthermore, the same shell caused injuries to another individual, a 54-year-old, who suffered a concussion due to the explosion and leg wounds.
In a separate shelling incident that targeted another location within the city of Kherson, emergency teams discovered “the body of a man while clearing the rubble,” according to the same source.
As per the governor of the region, the toll of Russian strikes on Kherson in the past 24 hours reached “four fatalities and nine wounded, including a child.”
The governor affirmed that “the Russian military targeted residential areas, medical facilities, educational institutions, and vital infrastructure in Kherson,” without providing further details regarding the extent of material damage.
Kherson is situated on the opposite side of the natural frontline formed by the Dnieper River and has been subject to near-daily Russian shelling since Ukrainian forces recaptured it in November 2022, following several months under Russian control.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on Sunday morning that they intercepted 14 out of 15 drones launched by Russia during the night.
