The ongoing civil war in Sudan is exacerbating a severe humanitarian crisis, leading to the rapid spread of deadly diseases such as cholera.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the bacterial disease has claimed the lives of more than 300 people.

Margaret Harris, a WHO spokesperson, reported on Friday that 11,327 cases of cholera have been confirmed in Sudan, resulting in 316 deaths.

In addition to cholera, cases of dengue fever and meningitis are also on the rise.

Harris noted that the actual numbers are likely higher than reported.

Since the conflict erupted in mid-April 2023, Sudan’s healthcare system has been severely compromised, leading to the accelerated spread of infectious diseases like cholera, malaria, measles, and dengue fever.

These outbreaks have resulted in hundreds of deaths as the country’s health infrastructure crumbles under the strain of war.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 15, 2023, with the war claiming tens of thousands of lives and sparking a widespread humanitarian crisis.
