At least three individuals have perished due to severe rainstorms in southeast France, with rescue teams currently searching for four others, including two children from the same family, reported missing.

A family of four, with children aged four and thirteen, found themselves trapped by rising waters as they attempted to cross a bridge in their car around 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, north of the city of Nîmes, according to local official Frederic Loiseau. The search continued on Sunday for the father and children, while the mother, aged forty, who was also in the vehicle, was found and taken to the hospital.

The three deceased were discovered in the Gard area after attempting to cross bridges over swollen rivers.

The first body was located several hundred meters from where the waters swept away a car carrying two Belgians on Saturday evening around 6:45 p.m. in the village of Gagnières, north of the Gard region.

In the village of Goudargues, home to approximately 1,100 residents, rescue teams found two more bodies. Emergency services received a call for assistance from two individuals in a car facing difficulties in Goudargues early Sunday morning, before losing contact.

Preliminary investigation results suggest that the two women, aged 47 and 50, were in the car en route to Spain.

In the neighboring Ardèche region, a man has been missing since Saturday evening in the village of Saint-Martin-de-Valamas due to the heavy rainfall.

Six regions in southeast France have been placed on orange alert due to the unprecedented rains associated with Storm Monica
