On Thursday, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Russian region of Belgorod bordering Ukraine, announced that two people were killed due to the crash of a drone that was shot down by Russian air defenses overnight.

Gladkov revealed through the Telegram application that “the air defense system in the Belgorod region shot down an approaching unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV),” adding, “As a result of the debris falling, a private residential building caught fire, resulting in two casualties.

The emergency teams found the bodies of two individuals, a man, and a woman, under the rubble.” according to “France Presse.”

He also mentioned that two other individuals were critically injured and transported to the hospital.

One of them, a man, is currently in a coma, while a woman suffered a concussion and is in critical condition. Additionally, there is a possibility that a child might be trapped under the rubble, and rescue operations are ongoing.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced early Thursday on the Telegram application that Russian air defenses had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack in the Belgorod region around 11:50 PM local time (20:50 GMT) on Wednesday.

The ministry did not report any injuries or damages.

Kyiv has intensified its drone attacks on Russian territory since June of last year when it launched a counteroffensive to reclaim areas controlled by Moscow’s forces in eastern and southern Ukraine.

Last Tuesday, a Ukrainian shell also caused the death of two civilians in the Belgorod region.
