Ukrainian officials reported on Friday that Russia had initiated its largest attack with drones and missiles on the country in months, resulting in the death of at least 12 individuals and injuring over 76 others across various regions, including the capital, Kyiv, and southern, western, and eastern Ukraine.
Numerous reports indicated damages to a maternity hospital in the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine, buildings in Lviv in the west, the port city of Odesa in the southeast, and Kharkiv in the east.
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, confirmed two fatalities in the capital and suspected that more individuals might be trapped under the rubble of a warehouse damaged by falling debris.
The local governor in the Odesa region stated that two individuals were killed in the port city of Odesa on the Black Sea, with at least 15 others injured as residential buildings were struck by missiles.
Ukraine has been warning for weeks that Russia might amass missiles for a major aerial campaign targeting energy infrastructure.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported power outages in four regions following the aerial attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed that Russia had fired approximately 110 missiles on Friday, marking one of its largest air assaults on Ukraine, with most of the missiles intercepted.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov mentioned that the rocket attack by Russia on December 29 across the country resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and injuries to more than 76 others.
The Ukrainian military confirmed the destruction of 114 Russian drones and cruise missiles used in the recent strikes.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that the air defense system had successfully downed 114 aerial targets out of the 158 launched by Russia on December 29.
Valeri Zaluzhny, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated that the air defense system intercepted 87 cruise missiles and 27 drones.
Denys Shmyhal, the Prime Minister, stated that “the enemy targeted social and vital infrastructure.”
The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that Russia employed supersonic missiles, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles in the attack, including models that are highly challenging to intercept.
The Ukrainian military confirmed the downing of 27 drones and 87 cruise missiles launched by Russia, while the Army Commander announced that Ukrainian military facilities were targeted in the Russian missile strike.
