Chinese authorities confirmed on Saturday that over one million people have been displaced from their homes in the southern provinces of Hainan and Guangdong due to Typhoon Yaji.

According to China International Television Network (CGTN), more than 400,000 individuals were evacuated in Hainan alone, with 89 tourist attractions also shut down. In Guangdong, an additional 700,000 citizens were moved from their homes as a precaution against the typhoon.

President Xi Jinping has urged intensified efforts to manage the disaster, with CGTN reporting that the central government has allocated 720 million yuan to address the destruction caused by the typhoon. To date, Typhoon Yaji has resulted in the deaths of four people and injured dozens more. The storm has also led to power outages in several areas, and the closure of numerous roads and main railway routes.

Yaji hit Hainan and Guangdong on Friday, bringing with it heavy rains and violent winds exceeding speeds of 234 kilometers per hour.
