The Serbian police announced today, Tuesday, that at least one person was killed and four others were injured following an explosion at a factory producing tires, protective equipment, and explosives.
According to the American news network ABC News, the police stated that the explosion occurred around 9:00 AM local time at the Trial company’s factory in the central city of Kruševac.
The police added that the injured were transported to the hospital for necessary treatment following the explosion. The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.
Recent accidents in Serbia include a significant incident involving an ammonia leak following a cargo train derailment. This event occurred in the southeastern city of Pirot and resulted in fifteen people being hospitalized, including one child. The emergency situation was declared due to the leak, which was caused when two wagons of the 20-wagon train carrying ammonia from Bulgaria to a Serbian fertilizer producer derailed and overturned. Local media reported that schools and kindergartens in Pirot were closed, and people were advised to stay indoors if not necessary.
Additionally, there was a tragic mass shooting in Serbia, where a young man wearing a T-shirt with neo-Nazi symbols killed eight people and wounded 14. This incident, considered Serbia’s second mass shooting in consecutive days, led to national soul-searching and discussions on gun culture, particularly in rural areas. The government in response planned to hire new police officers for school security and offered an amnesty for people surrendering illegal weapons and explosive devices.
